Junior Brown
With his unmistakable voice, sharp songwriting, and one-of-a-kind double-neck “Guit-Steel,” Junior Brown stands alone in American music. Born in 1952 in Arizona and raised in Indiana, he was immersed in country sounds early on, teaching himself guitar and performing from a young age—including sharing the stage with Bo Diddley as a teen.
After years honing his craft in honky-tonks across the Southwest, Brown developed a unique style blending country, rock, blues, and western swing. In the mid-’80s, he invented the Guit-Steel, allowing him to seamlessly switch between guitar and steel guitar mid-song—further defining his signature sound.
Relocating to Austin in the early ’90s, Brown gained national attention with his debut album Twelve Shades of Brown and went on to earn Grammy nominations, a CMA award, and appearances on major TV shows and films. He’s collaborated with legends like George Jones, Ralph Stanley, and the Beach Boys.
Still touring with his band, Junior Brown continues to deliver a live show like no other. GUIT WITH IT—he’s truly an American original.
